What is Winja
Based on the success of our VirusTotal Uploader, Phrozen SoftwareTM is proud to introduce Winja, which provides even greater malicious file scanning and monitoring capabilities. Winja—short for “Windows Ninja”—is much more than an advanced uploader and multi-engine antivirus scanner.
We took the VirusTotal application programming interfaces (APIs) and recoded them from scratch to bring you a powerful, fast, and user-friendly scanning and monitoring utility. Winja checks for existing scans before uploading files to save you time and efforts. It also includes a rescan option, so you can scan your files against the latest antivirus databases. Winja is designed to deliver the quality and capability you have come to expect from a Phrozen SoftwareTM product. Of course, we paid close attention to the interface design and usability to make it comfortable and convenient to use for inexperienced users, but we also included extra features to make it a powerful tool for advanced users as well. Winja is lightweight and stable, to perform effectively and efficiently even on older computers. With Winja, you can easily scan files on your local system, scan and download files from the web, and scan running system processes. Winja’s “Extra Tools” panel also allows you to scan and monitor scheduled tasks, startup activities, and services. We specifically designed and coded the Extra Tools panel be plugin-ready, which means it can be progressively updated via our new Live Update System with any number of future functionalities. By submitting suspicious files you find with Winja to our VirusTotal service, you participate in helping antivirus companies around the world keep virus definitions up to date and stay on top of digital security trends.
Note: Winja is compiled for both 32bit and 64bit systems. The setup file automatically chooses the appropriate installation file based on the executable architecture. Do not attempt to use a 32-bit version of Winja on a 64-bit system or vice-versa.
Winja is a powerful tool for protecting yourself against malware, but it is not antivirus software or a replacement for any antivirus tool. Winja is a very powerful complement to antivirus software that gives you an extra layer of security and allows you to hunt for malware hiding in your system. We built Winja to help you find malware, but you cannot use Winja to eliminate it. After uncovering a deeply hidden malicious file with Winja, you must use your normal antivirus tools to remove it.
Built on VirusTotal for Ultimate Precision
We built Winja from the ground up, based on our VirusTotal application programming interfaces (APIs), and fully optimized it to save network resources and time. Winja checks automatically for the existence of a previous scan in the VirusTotal archives before uploading a file to eliminate unnecessary scans. To keep you fully protected, Winja also offers a rescan option so you can run any file against the most current antivirus databases available.
Fast, Stable, and User-friendly
Like our other tools and applications, we built Winja to require few system resources so it never slows you down. Winja is stable and secure and the intuitive interface makes it easy for anyone to use.
Numerous Choices for Scanning One File or Multiple Files at a Time
Winja gives you numerous scanning options for scanning individual files or multiple files at a time. With the intuitive interface, you can browse your system for files or drag and drop files from your desktop or system folders to the Winja Desktop Widget. You can also use Winja’s powerful and convenient capabilities to scan files from third parties with the Download and Scan, Quick Process Scan, Extra Tools, and Advanced Application Inspection (AAI) features.

Scan Suspicious Running Processes at a Glance
Winja’s Extra Tools allow you to scan and monitor active system and networking processes. From the easy-to-use interface, you can scan suspicious processes to uncover malware or discover network connections that may be communicating with remote hackers.
The Extra Tools panel allows advanced users to investigate and monitor system processes and services. You can dig deeper into your system’s functionality to unearth malware that is hidden inside tasks, startup processes, or registered services.
This function allows you to view running processes in a hierarchical parent - child model, which offers more precise anticipation of changes to your system attempted by malware. You can report suspicious processes to the antivirus databases to strengthen future malware protection.
Microsoft Task Scheduler
This function lists any application registered to the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler system and gives you the ability to scan, disable, enable, or delete suspicious tasks.
The Microsoft Startup feature allows you to monitor startup activity and uncover suspicious entries. Because many types of malware use the default Windows Startup Location to launch, this feature is very useful for tracking malicious activity. The interface also complements the visual style of MS Windows for greater ease of use.
The Microsoft Services listing is also a very common place to find malware that is registering services or drivers or even registering itself at startup. This function allows you to investigate any suspicious entries in the services listing to root out malware that is attempting to cover its tracks.
Malware often uses networks to provide sensitive information to remote hackers and wait for commands to operate on the infected machine. Because of this almost systematic behavior, we implemented Networking Process Monitoring with real time updating support. You can easily identify which processes are communicating with unknown IP addresses to reveal the presence of a malicious program. This feature also supports Active Monitoring.
Advanced Application Inspection (AAI)
Winja includes a powerful Advanced Application Inspection module that allows you to investigate all the components and activities of your applications. As malware often hides deep inside applications and attempts to gain greater access to your system over time, inspecting application components is extremely useful for finding malware before it spreads.
This feature lists the libraries (DLLs) opened and used by the target process, which is a good way to check for suspicious libraries attached to a process. The feature allows you to report malicious DLLs to support our Live Update System that will roll out updates to features as they become available.
Another great feature is one that lists which files are currently attached/used by a running process. It also supports our Live Update System that will roll out updates to features as they become available.
Local File / Memory Strings
Winja scans all associated local files and memory strings as well, to ensure that malicious files are not hiding deeper inside an application.
This feature allows you to view and evaluate the privileges granted to processes to determine if malware is gaining unauthorized access to other parts of your system.
File Hex Editor
Winja includes a hex editor for testing and editing files on the fly, so you won’t need additional software to examine code in suspicious files.
Memory View + Hex Editor
In the Memory View mode, you can detect pieces of malicious code inside legitimate processes and edit and save code directly to memory.
